Sugar overload

So we meet again, Cadbury Mini Egg.
There you are, tempting me from the grocery shelves every spring with your melt-in-your-mouth chocolate center and your crunchy shell, which I can only assume is made from some sort of highly addictive narcotic.
Every year we do the same dance. I buy a bag to put out for “guests.” Oh, but I’ll just have one little egg on my way to the sink. And one on the way back. Put away a dish? Just one more. Then I really do deserve one for making dinner. And one more for putting the kids to bed.
Before I know it, I’ve single-handedly eaten several bags of Cadbury Mini Eggs before Easter even rolls around.
I wish these irresistible chocolates were my only candy downfall. I’ve always had a sweet tooth, but I feel like the candy/chocolate/sweet trap is everywhere as a mom.
Since I’m home during the day, I can make pretty short work of things like those Mini Eggs. Then, there are always treats at school, treats at church and cupcakes by the ton everywhere. There are parties, piatas, goody bags and holiday treats. Every time I turn around my daughter is asking to eat another piece of candy that I have no idea how she even got her hands on.
I’ve been trying to curb my daughter’s sugar consumption, but I’m afraid I’m not a very good example. It’s hard to tell her no when I’m constantly refilling the candy bowl for those “guests” that never show up.
Any tips for avoiding sweets as a mom or for helping your kids curb their sweet tooth?
