Where are all the real men?
Does it ever seem to you like real men are harder to find these days?
I’ve thought this before as I’ve watched the onslaught of metrosexuals take over. In case you’re not up on the slang, the word metrosexual is a combination of heterosexual and metropolitan.
These are the guys that are seconds away from a grease fire from the product in their hair and are well-tweezed, well-dressed and well-oiled. You can usually spot one of these metrosexual males coming by his cloud of cologne or by the light reflecting off his brilliantly white teeth. Skinny jeans and a man-purse are usually a dead giveaway. The modern metrosexual male will also likely have Banana Republic on speed dial.
Seriously. What has happened to men?
I was reading an article last week about another growing trend among men — cosmetic surgery. More specifically, this article highlighted the dramatic increase of men going under the knife to remove their “moobs.” These are the baggy, saggy chest pockets of skin and fat that are apparently a secret shame of many men.
One doctor said he sees at least one moob patient a week. Umm … what about some good old-fashioned bench presses?
Don’t get me wrong — I’m all for men taking care of themselves and caring about their appearance. I appreciate a close shave, a dab of cologne and other general niceties, like deodorant. But I just don’t find anything attractive about a man who never misses a mani-pedi appointment and can recommend the best waxer in the area. In general, I think women like being the better-manicured partner in a relationship.
Am I the only one who thinks men are becoming less manly? What do you ladies think of metrosexual men? What about you guys out there — where have all the real men gone?
