Pandemic preparations

OK, maybe I’m paranoid, but I went out yesterday to buy some facial masks. Now I know there’s no immediate flu crisis yet, but I thought it couldn’t hurt to have some masks on hand in case this flu gets out of control.

Apparently, I’m not the only one thinking like that. I had to go to three stores to find any masks still in stock. I ended up buying the last box of masks at one store and a cashier told me customers had been buying masks, alcohol, latex gloves and stockpiles of Tylenol all day.

So call me crazy, but I feel a little better knowing I don’t have to run out and try to buy masks if we need them.

This whole flu thing has also made me grateful that I already have a few months of food supply on hand. It has taken me a while to build up my food storage, and I’m nowhere near where I need to be, but it’s comforting to know I don’t have to run around like a madwoman when a crisis hits trying to get enough food for my family.

Are you doing anything in response to the flu scare? Have you changed your behavior, stockpiled supplies, or given yourself a pat on the back for already being prepared?
