Hooked on babies

The birth of Nadya Suleman’s octuplets has raised lots of questions about fertility treatments, physician ethics and abuse of welfare.

One of the most interesting topics that has been brought to the limelight is whether some moms can experience a true “baby addiction.” These moms may not be able to handle the children they already have, but have an insatiable desire to keep popping out babies.

While not all large families are the result of moms seeking a baby high, some doctors say a “baby addiction” can be the result of a dysfunctional childhood or emotional holes in a woman’s life.

The sad part of this is that moms who need a newborn to feel happy may be neglecting the children they already have — both emotionally and financially.

What do you think — can some women be hooked on having babies? How did you decide how many children to have?
