Medical abortions
Thank you all for the insightful comments on Tuesday’s blog about getting pregnant despite serious health risks. I’m sure I’ll write all about my decision to adopt or to get pregnant once we make it — if I can ever force myself to actually decide.
I do have one more question, however. (I promise to get back to cheerier subjects next week!)
One of the risks that we take in getting pregnant again is that I will get too ill to finish the pregnancy and the doctor will advise me either to have the baby early (if it’s viable) or to have a medically necessary abortion.
When I told my mother about that possibility, her first reaction was, “Well, could you do that? Could you abort a baby to save your life?”
It’s a tough question, and one that I’m not sure I could answer until I’m actually in that moment.
What do you think? Could you abort a baby if it meant saving your own life?
